Energy Policy
Powering Australia’s Future: A Clean Energy Revolution
Our policy unites AEMO’s plan to decarbonise the grid with Rewiring Australia’s strategy to electrify households. Together, they offer a cleaner, more affordable energy future and global leadership in renewables.
Key Components
1. Decarbonising the Grid (AEMO)
Investment: $16B in transmission upgrades by 2050
Goals
- 10,000 km of new transmission lines
- 6x current wind and solar capacity
- Reliable renewables supported by storage and gas
Benefits
- $18.5B in consumer savings
- $3.3B in emissions reductions
- 60,000+ new energy jobs
2. Electrifying Households (Rewiring Australia)
Loan Scheme: $40–50B over 14 years for 10M households
Cost to Government: $2–2.8B
Benefits
- $1.17T in household savings by 2050
- $5,000/year average household savings by 2030
- Cleaner homes with rooftop solar, electric appliances, and EVs
Funding the Transition
- Redirect Fossil Fuel Subsidies
- Half of $11.6B/year to clean energy = $29B by 2030
- Remaining Fuel Subsidies to go to building more public transport capacity and charging infrastructure for road freight and the public
- Other Sources: Green bonds, climate finance, private investment
Impact Summary
Economic
- 60,000+ new jobs
- $1.17T in household savings
- $18.5B net savings from grid upgrades
Environmental
- Net zero electricity emissions by 2050
- 90% coal exit by 2035; full phase-out by 2040
- 4x increase in rooftop solar; 6x in utility renewables
Implementation Timeline
2025–2030: Launch transmission upgrades, loans, and subsidy redirection
2030–2040: Major coal closures, battery and solar expansion
2040–2050: Finalise transmission and reach near-100% renewable power
Why It Matters
This policy lowers energy bills, boosts jobs, slashes emissions, and shields us from global energy shocks—by investing in our future instead of subsidising the past.
Let’s power Australia’s future—together.
